MEMBERSHIP

How did you pick me?

Your address was randomly selected from among all U.S. addresses. This random selection means that people of different ages, races, regions, employment statuses, and education levels are members of AmeriSpeak. We are counting on you to join AmeriSpeak and represent people who think like you.

Once we select your address, we ask reputable data vendors to append selected publicly available information about anyone living in the address. We want your opinions to be counted and this additional information will help our invitation reach you.

What difference can I make by joining AmeriSpeak?

A big difference! AmeriSpeak survey results are used to inform decisions that will affect Americans like you. When you complete AmeriSpeak surveys, you are representing your community to business leaders and policy makers. Because we use a scientific process to select addresses, you cannot be replaced. If you don’t join, people like you may not be represented as they should be.

Why AmeriSpeak?

There are many online panels that you can join on your own. AmeriSpeak is different. Business leaders and policy makers trust AmeriSpeak survey results because we use a scientific process to select addresses to be invited to join AmeriSpeak. By inviting adults living at these addresses, we get the opinions of community members who might not otherwise share their opinions on surveys and polls, including people who will only complete surveys over the telephone.

What do I do as a member of AmeriSpeak?

After you complete your first survey, we will send you an email when there is a survey for you to complete. If you have no internet access, we will call you. Most surveys take 5 to 15 minutes. If they take longer, we will give you more rewards.

I am on a “Do Not Call” list, why are you calling me?

AmeriSpeak can call phone numbers in the “Do Not Call” list since we are NOT telemarketers. We do NOT ask you to purchase any product from us or ask you to donate, and we never will. NORC at the University of Chicago, our parent organization, is a nonprofit opinion research organization with a mission to promote public interests. For over 75 years, NORC has conducted numerous landmark opinion research studies that have been used as a source of information in many decision making processes, including state and national policies.

Can my friends and family join AmeriSpeak?

Membership on the AmeriSpeak Panel is by invitation only. Any adult living in in the same house as you do can join AmeriSpeak. Part of what makes AmeriSpeak so unique and credible is how we select members. Significant resources are dedicated to making sure we have a panel which is truly representative of the U.S. population. When we ask for the contact information of others living in the home, it is because we would like to send them an invitation to participate also. Your friends or family members who do not reside in your household are generally not eligible, unless we select their household address through a scientific process.

SURVEYS

What are the surveys about?

Our surveys cover all kinds of topics. Your first couple of surveys will be about your demographics, such as age, gender, marital status, your health, or your civic participation. We ask for these information so that we can give you surveys that are appropriate for you.

After you complete these surveys, your next surveys could be about events that are in the news, about new policies in areas such as health or education, or about products and services being developed by personal technology and other consumer companies.

How often will you contact me for surveys ?

As an AmeriSpeak member, you will be invited to complete surveys on average about 2 to 4 times per month about a wide variety of topics. We encourage you to participate in each survey and receive more rewards.

How long are the surveys?

Surveys usually take 5 to 15 minutes to complete. If they take longer, we will give you more rewards.

Who asks AmeriSpeak to do these surveys?

Our clients are leaders and policy makers at organizations such as The Associated Press, Consumer Reports, AARP, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and many more.

AmeriSpeak survey results have been featured by The Associated Press, CBS News, Fox News, The New York Times, and Forbes, among others, and published in scientific research conducted by universities, non-profit organizations, and government.

PRIVACY

What kind of information do you collect about me?

In your first few surveys, we will ask for your name, address, and contact information. We will also ask you for some demographic details, such as your age, ethnicity, and level of education. Your responses to these questions will help us send you surveys that match you. We ask for information about other members of your household so that we can invite them to join AmeriSpeak.

Our surveys will then collect information about your opinions and values – such as your thoughts on social issues, about your perceptions of health and well-being, or about your experiences with a certain product category. Rest assured that we will NEVER ask for your social security number, driver’s license number or your bank account number.

How do you use my personal information?

We at NORC deeply value your trust. We use your personal information to let you know of new surveys, to send you your rewards, or to update you about AmeriSpeak. We will never share your personal information to our clients unless you give us explicit permission to do so. We will not use your personal identifying information to sell or market goods or services to you. Review our Privacy Policy for more details about how we use information you share with us.

How do you protect my information and survey responses?

The security of your personal information and survey response data are essential to our success and credibility at AmeriSpeak and NORC. Over our 75 years of conducting social and policy research for U.S. Federal agencies, State governments, and foundations, we have established security measures, including encryption methods and access protocols, to help protect the security and confidentiality of your data.

We protect the identities of our AmeriSpeak members by using tools and methods to make sure that there is no reasonable possibility of identifying an individual person in our reports and the reports prepared by our clients. We deliver only anonymized information (no personally identifying information) to our clients. We group your responses with the responses of many others to produce our statistical and client reports.

REWARDS

How do I get rewards?

You will receive AmeriPoints for completing surveys. You will have the option to redeem your points for Mastercard® Reward Cards, a variety of virtual gift cards for retailers such as Amazon.com, Apple, movie theaters, restaurants, and many more! 1,000 AmeriPoints = $1. YOU GET THE POINTS, YOU REDEEM FOR THE REWARD OF YOUR CHOICE.

After you complete your first survey, you will have received at least 20,000 AmeriPoints. That is the same as $20. You will get additional AmeriPoints for each survey you take. Some surveys will give you more AmeriPoints than others because we might ask you to respond quickly or the survey might take longer than usual to complete. You can get up to 5,000 AmeriPoints ($5) or sometimes more, for each survey you complete.

How do I redeem my rewards?

You can redeem your AmeriPoints whenever you want by signing in to your AmeriSpeak Member Portal, the AmeriSpeak App, or by calling the dedicated AmeriSpeak Support team during the hours of operation. You will need to accrue at least 10,000 AmeriPoints before being able to redeem for a reward.

Why are my rewards given in AmeriPoints?

With AmeriPoints, you can choose when to get your reward product and what kind of product you want. For example, you can redeem your AmeriPoints now or possibly wait until the next holiday. You can redeem your AmeriPoints for Mastercard® Rewards Cards, Amazon.com gift cards, movie tickets, restaurant gift cards, or donate to a charity of your choice. For Mastercard® Rewards Cards, you can choose to have them mailed to you or receive them right away as online codes.

Want to ship your Mastercard® Reward Card to a loved one or ship to a different address?
You can do that too! You can redeem all of your AmeriPoints at once or only a fraction at a time. It’s completely up to you!

Do my rewards expire?

Yes, AmeriPoints will expire two years after they are awarded to you.

Are you on social media?

Yes, you can follow us on Facebook, Twitter, or Snapchat. Because maintaining your privacy is our top priority, we are unable to respond to most questions about panel participation and surveys on these public channels. We will instead reach out to you privately by telephone or email.
