What do I do as a member of AmeriSpeak?
You will take short surveys on the web, via the AmeriSpeak App, or by telephone with a professional NORC researcher. We encourage you to take surveys on the web or via the AmeriSpeak App, but if you prefer to answer questions over the telephone, that’s fine too. We ask for your help about once a week, but sometimes less often. For each survey, we will send a personalized email invitation containing a link to your survey or you will receive a notification via the AmeriSpeak App (available soon) or else give you a call – whatever you prefer. Most surveys take 10-15 minutes to complete and vary in AmeriPoints amounts awarded.
What difference can I make by joining AmeriSpeak?
A big difference! By joining AmeriSpeak, you are joining an exclusive public opinion platform. AmeriSpeak is the most scientifically credible and representative opinion panel in the U.S. The AmeriSpeak surveys are used to inform critically important public policy and private-sector corporate decisions that will affect many people like you. We need your voice to be counted so that AmeriSpeak will represent people like you.
Can my friends and family join AmeriSpeak?
Any adult living in in the same house as you do can join AmeriSpeak. Part of what makes AmeriSpeak so unique and credible is how we select members. Significant resources are dedicated to making sure we have a panel which is truly representative of the U.S. population. Any adult residents living in your household can join AmeriSpeak. When we ask for the contact information of others living in the home, it is because we would like to send them an invitation to participate also. Your friends or family members who do not reside in your household are generally not eligible, unless we select their household scientifically.
How did you get my information?
First, your address is randomly selected from a USPS list of mailing addresses. This is to ensure that results from AmeriSpeak surveys can be used to estimate the opinions of all Americans. Once we select your address, we ask reputable data vendors to append selected publicly available information about anyone living in the address. We want your opinions to be counted and this additional information will help our invitation reach you.
I am on a “Do Not Call” list, why are you calling me?
AmeriSpeak can call phone numbers in the “Do Not Call” list since we are NOT telemarketers. We do NOT ask you to purchase any product from us or ask you to donate, and we never will. NORC at the University of Chicago, our parent organization, is a nonprofit opinion research organization with a mission to further public interests. We want to voice the opinions of ALL Americans, and that’s all we want. For over 75 years, NORC has conducted numerous landmark opinion research studies that have been used as a source of information in many decision making processes, including state and national policies. Some of NORC’s most well-known studies are the General Social Survey (GSS), National Longitudinal Surveys of Youth (NLSY) and Survey of Consumer Finances (SCF).
What are the surveys about and who wants the surveys done?
Our surveys cover all kinds of topics! The variety we offer is one of the ways that we make things interesting! Sometimes our surveys are about events that are in the news or about new government policies or products and services being developed by personal technology and other consumer companies. Sometimes our surveys are just about you so that we can be sure to give you surveys that are appropriate for you.
How often will you contact me for surveys ?
As an AmeriSpeak member, you will be invited to complete surveys on average about 2-4 times per month about a wide variety of topics. We encourage you to participate in each survey and earn more rewards.
How do I earn rewards?
You will earn AmeriPoints by taking surveys. After you complete your first survey, you will have earned at least 20,000 points. That is the same as $20. You will have the option to redeem your points for Visa rewards cards, Amazon gift cards, other retailer gift cards, or movie tickets. YOU EARN THE POINTS, YOU REDEEM FOR THE REWARD OF YOUR CHOICE. You will earn additional AmeriPoints for each survey you take. Some surveys will give you more AmeriPoints than others because we might ask you to respond quickly or because the survey is longer than usual. You can earn up to 5,000 AmeriPoints ($5) or sometimes more, for each survey you complete.
How do I redeem my rewards?
You can redeem your AmeriPoints whenever you want by signing in to your AmeriSpeak Member Portal, AmeriSpeak App, or by calling the dedicated AmeriSpeak Support team during the hours of operation. Please keep in mind that some products are worth more points than others and you will need to accrue at least 10,000 AmeriPoints before being able to redeem for a reward.
Why are my rewards given in AmeriPoints?
With AmeriPoints, you can choose when you want to get your reward product and what kind of product you want. For example, you can redeem your AmeriPoints now or possibly wait until the next holiday. You can redeem your AmeriPoints for rewards cards, gift cards, or movie tickets. For some products like the rewards card, you can choose to have it mailed to you or receive it right away as an online product/code. You can redeem all of your AmeriPoints or only a fraction. Want to ship the product to a loved one? You can do that too!

What is the AmeriSpeak App?
A mobile app is a software application developed specifically for use on mobile devices rather than desktop or laptop computers.
The AmeriSpeak App will allow you to access your AmeriSpeak surveys, account information, and rewards wirelessly from your Apple iPhone or Android phone. There is no cost to download and use the AmeriSpeak App ever. It does not have ads in it, and you do not have to pay to remove ads. You can install the app on multiple devices.
What are the benefits of downloading and using the AmeriSpeak App?
The AmeriSpeak App is convenient and easy to use! Once you have downloaded the app, you will be able to easily access all your available surveys, update your contact information, redeem rewards, and contact the AmeriSpeak Support Team.
What do I need to do to download and use the AmeriSpeak App?
The AmeriSpeak App is designed only for Apple iPhones and Android phones. You will need an iOS version 9.1 and higher, or an Android version 4.x to 7.x (Jelly Bean to Nougat).
The AmeriSpeak App is available for Apple iPhone users via the App Store and Android phone users via the Google Play. You can find the AmeriSpeak App by searching for “AmeriSpeak.” You will need a corresponding Apple or Google account to access those app stores.
How safe is the AmeriSpeak App?
The AmeriSpeak App is safe. All critical information is encrypted and no personal information is stored on your device, unless you choose to store your login information to the app on the device. In that case, any person who has access to your device can access your account. No survey response data will be stored on the device.
The app has been extensively tested to meet the security requirement of the Google Play and App Store on iPhone and does not contain any viruses, malware, or ad-ware. App updates will be made available via the Google Play and App Store as needed for security issues and to ensure compatibility with future iOS and Android operating system updates. We regularly make improvements and updates suggested from feedback from our AmeriSpeak members. Be sure to update to the newest version for the best mobile app experience.
Are you on social media?
What kind of information do you collect about me?
We will ask for your name, address, and contact information. We will also ask you for some demographic details, such as your age, ethnicity, and level of education. We ask about other members of your household so that we can invite them to join AmeriSpeak. Our surveys will then collect information about your opinions and values – such as your thoughts on social issues, about your perceptions of health and well-being, or about your experiences with a certain product category. Rest assured that we will NEVER ask for your social security number, driver’s license number or your bank account number.
How do you keep my personal information and survey responses confidential?
We at NORC deeply value your trust.
We protect the identities of our AmeriSpeak members by using tools and methods to make sure that there is no reasonable possibility of identifying an individual person in our reports and the reports prepared by our clients. We deliver only anonymized information (no personal identifying information) to our clients, unless you give us explicit permission to share personal information. We will NOT use your personal identifying information to sell or market goods or services directly to you. Also, we do not allow our clients to market directly to you. To protect your identity, we group your responses with the responses of many others to produce our statistical reports.
The security of your personal and survey response data are essential to our success and credibility at NORC. Over our 75 years of conducting social and policy research for U.S. Federal agencies, State governments, and foundations, we have established security measures, including encryption methods and access protocols, to help protect the security and confidentiality of your data.
Do you track what I do on my computer or mobile phone?
No, we do not. We do not track which web sites you visit or what applications you use. Our AmeriSpeak App does not need additional information on your phone and it will not require access to your location.
Do you collect my or my whole family’s information? What about my children?
We collect information on you. If other family members living in your household want to join AmeriSpeak, they may do so. We encourage all adults in each AmeriSpeak household to join AmeriSpeak. We do not collect information directly from persons under the age of 18 without the explicit consent of the parent or legal guardian.
